Zurich Main Railway Station

Zurich's main train station is located in the very heart of Zurich and at the same time is the central and biggest transport hub for Switzerland. There are 16 platforms for long-distance trains and 10 platforms for local high-speed trains.

The first train station in Zurich was opened in 1847, but the current building was built in 1871. Nowadays the main hall where people arrive and depart was a trainshed for the international trains until 1933. Now station features a great shopping mall built underneath and some underground platforms used by local Swiss trains.

What to find in the station?

The station is equipped with great departure boards that show you the platform each train leaves from; make sure to check them in advance.

Platforms #3 to 18 are located on the ground level of the main concourse and just next to the original 1871 main hall. Numbered from left to right, if you look from the main hall towards the platforms.

Most international trains like TGV from Paris, Railjets from Zurich to Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Budapest, sleepers to Berlin, high-speed trains to Zagreb and Budapest, and most of the local trains use these platforms.

How to get there?

Zurich's central train station is set in the city's heart and is surrounded by plenty of famous sights. You can quickly get to the station by walking; for example, the station is only 2 minutes walking from the Swiss National Museum and 12 minutes walking from the Niederdorf and the Church of St. Peter.

Also, there are a few bus and tram stops around the station, including Löwenplatz and Bahnhofplatz/HB.
